The University of Bolton is a well-established/high-profile centre for 14+ education and training in the Further Education & Skills sector. Our undergraduate education courses were ranked joint second for Graduate Prospects in the North West by the Complete University Guide 2016.

We also have a strong tradition of teaching Psychology, and we were one of the first Higher Education institutions in the UK to offer a degree in the subject. We have strong links with professional bodies such as the British Psychological Society (BPS) and British Association of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapists (BABCP) and produce world-class research.

With links to educational partners across the UK, and in Europe and the Middle East, our programmes and research have international reach. Our expertise means we are well-placed to offer specially-designed foundation programmes and pre-sessional English language courses for international students. We also offer Access courses that are designed to help students who are returning to learning to achieve their potential.

Purpose-built Facilities

The School of Education & Psychology uses many state-of-the-art facilities. Our purpose-built facilities in the Eagle Tower include psychology laboratories, and an array of well-appointed teaching and seminar rooms.

Our Links & Partners

We work hard to build and maintain links with professional bodies and employers. These help ensure the relevance of our courses and research, and that our academic content and focus keeps pace with industry changes and innovations. These relationships can provide placement opportunities for our students, as well as providing research collaborations and consultancy opportunities.

Professional Recognition & Standards

Several of our courses are accredited or endorsed by key professional bodies regulating the education and psychology industries. We also work with professional institutions that don’t accredit courses, but do offer membership to appropriately qualified individuals. We work hard to ensure our courses meet the academic requirements specified by these bodies, so that our graduates are well-placed to apply for membership once they meet the experiential requirements of these professional bodies.

British Psychological Society (BPS)

Our BSc (Hons) Psychology, BSc (Hons) Criminological and Forensic Psychology, BSc (Hons) Psychology, Counselling and Psychotherapies, and PgDip Psychological Studies are approved as conferring eligibility for the Graduate Basis for Chartership (GBC) of the BPS, provided the minimum standard of qualification of second class honours is achieved.

British Association of Behavioural & Cognitive Psychotherapists (BABCP)

Our PgDip Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapies is a Level 2 Accredited training course with BABCP. This means that that graduates of this course are recognised as having met all of the training requirements for practitioner accreditation by the BABCP.

Higher Education Academy (HEA)

Our Advanced Professional Development in Teaching and Supporting Learning in Higher and Professional Education course is accredited by the Higher Education Academy (HEA) and may lead to Associate Fellowship of the HEA for those seeking professional recognition.
