Looking to build a career in physiotherapy or sports? Then the sports, sport rehabilitation and physiotherapy courses at the University of Bolton can provide an ideal gateway into one of these exciting careers. Our courses are based in our Bolton One facility, the University of Bolton’s £31 million sport, leisure, health and research centre.
As a sports student, you will have world-class placement opportunities with professional sports teams and athletes (in our Athlete Development Centre), at clinics and in specialist rehabilitation centres across the country. You could be working with professionals, the Ministry of Defence, or members of the public. Our physiotherapy students will have clinical placements in the NHS, private clinics and the voluntary sector.
Within the School of Sport and Biological Sciences, we pride ourselves on applying a team approach to everything we do. We are proud to provide a socially inclusive and positive learning environment for our students. Small class sizes ensure that our students receive personal one-to-one support from our passionate tutors, which is why the University of Bolton is ranked in the top five in the UK for teaching quality, as per The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2020.
Bolton One is home to our Athlete Development Centre and specialist suites for rehabilitation and strength conditioning, where you can gain direct experience in the university’s Sports and Spinal Injury Clinic. Our sport rehabilitation degrees are professionally accredited by BASRaT (British Association of Rehabilitators and Trainers) and we are seeking professional endorsement from CIMSPA (Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity) for our sport development and coaching degree programmes. We are working closely with the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP) and the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) towards gaining accreditation of our physiotherapy courses.
Within Bolton One, you will have access to a range of facilities including:
Alter G treadmill
Motion capture and force plate systems
Clinical Simulation Suites
Depending on which of our courses you select, you may cover topics including:
Sport and exercise physiology
Injury prevention and functional rehabilitation
Community engagement and physical activity
With access to state-of-the-art learning facilities, outstanding work experience opportunities, and teaching which is recognised by expert industry organisations, you can be sure that you’ll graduate as a specialist within your chosen field.
You could progress into a career within the following fields (please note that some roles may require additional qualifications and/or work experience for entry):
