“Develop your creative, practical and critical skills.”
Media & Photography is a fast moving area with constantly changing and improving technology. But what stays consistent is the need for highly creative and talented people. It’s the perfect industry if you have an eye for visual design and a desire to produce creative work.
Photography at the University of Bolton is top 10 in the UK and top in the North West, according to the Guardian University Guide 2017.
Our photography courses will help you develop your creative, practical, and critical skills in traditional and digital photography. You’ll work in new £10 million purpose-built facilities, which include photography studios, darkrooms, industry-standard computer suites, and digital printing technology.
You will be encouraged to apply for work placements with creative companies, graduate internships and prizes, including the neo:artists award and the Bradford Industrial Museum Internship Award.
At postgraduate level we encourage students to focus on contemporary practices across a diverse range of genres, from conceptual to documentary photography.
Media at the University of Bolton is top ten in the UK for student to staff ratio, according to the Guardian University Guide 2017.
You’ll learn through practical workshops and academic study, all with the aim of building a personal portfolio of work that showcases your own skills and interests. With a focus on employability, you’ll be encouraged to enter industry competitions and develop transferable skills that all employers look for in new recruits.
We encourage our students to seek out work experience opportunities and Bolton is well place for these. We are a short distance from MediaCityUK, the UK’s first designated digital and creative community, and each course offers trips to important cultural centres including Manchester’s newest arts centre HOME, Liverpool Tate and nationally renowned Bolton Octagon Theatre, with which the University has a partnership.
