Get Your Finance Sorted

If you are funding your studies through Student Finance England it’s important to apply for your student finance as soon as possible as there may be a delay in their decision making if you leave it to the last minute. International Pre-Arrival Guide

There is the obvious stuff like the charger for your phone, toothbrush and maybe a pen, but don’t forget the documentation. You are advised to carry the following in your hand luggage (some of this will only apply to international students and not students from the EU).

  • Valid passport, with visa/UK entry clearance
  • Original documents to prove financial support for tuition fees and maintenance
  • Original offer letter from the university stating home address
  • Originals of any other important documents (e.g. previous qualifications which have been listed in your CAS)
  • Travel insurance details
  • Health certificate/check-up
  • Details of your destination – address/telephone number
  • Proof of purchase for any IT equipment
  • British currency
  • Spare passport-size photographs


Before you arrive on campus you are required to complete the University of Bolton online enrolment process. You will be asked to read and agree to the Terms & Conditions of Enrolment, click here to view the details in advance.

You will receive your invitation to enrol once your offer is unconditional. You cannot enrol until you have received this invitation.

If you have a conditional offer, you should provide any evidence of meeting the conditions of your offer to qualifications@bolton.ac.uk.

Your invitation to enrol will be sent out towards the end of August but before the start of your course. This email will contain instructions on the online enrolment process. Please complete fully.

Enrolment is an entirely online process. You will be asked to accept the Terms and Conditions of Enrolment and answer a few short questions.

Please follow the instructions provided in your invitation to enrol email or follow the link www.bolton.ac.uk/welcome.

Once you have enrolled online you will be asked to upload a photo for your ID card and virtual ID card. Your virtual ID card will appear on the myBolton app which you should download as soon as you can. Your actual ID card will be distributed as soon as possible after the start of your course.

Once you have completed enrolment you will be asked to upload a copy of your ID. We need to see this in order to make sure you have the right to study in the UK and to confirm your attendance to Student Finance England.

Full details of acceptable forms of ID are provided with your enrolment instructions as part of your invitation or you can check www.bolton.ac.uk/welcome.

Once your ID has been checked and verified you will receive a confirmation email and you will have access to the library resources, IT systems and your personal timetable.

Enrolment Support Centre

We are providing an Enrolment Support Centre for students with queries or issues with any part of the enrolment process.

Don’t worry, if we are unable to resolve your problem remotely then one of our team will book an appointment for you on campus from 14 September to get it sorted.

Attend your Course Level Welcome Activities

You will receive an email from the Student Experience Team before your course starts inviting you to attend your Course Level Induction activities, the full details of what is going on will be in the email attachments, the majority of Course Level Inductions will be taking place via Zoom.

Preparing to arrive at our Covid-secure campus

Student COVID-19 Resilient Campus Access Protocol

Health and Safety is everyone’s responsibility: When you attend campus make sure you wear a face covering (which covers your nose and mouth), which will need to be worn whenever you are inside the university buildings. Face coverings in classrooms are mandatory due to 1 metre plus social distancing being applied in the classroom environment.

Attend campus only on your allocated days and respect the start and end times of your allocated sessions. If you are unable to attend, please notify your Programme Leader.

When you enter the buildings, you will walk through the temperature scanner make sure you take your face covering off before you walk through the scanner or it may not be able to record your temperature.

When you arrive on campus please use the hand sanitiser provided. As you move around campus use the hand sanitiser at regular intervals. Whenever you use the toilet facilities wash your hands for 20 seconds or more.

Adhere to the one-way system that has been implemented throughout campus. Please do not gather in groups and cause obstructions to other students moving around the campus.

Refrain from greeting your friends with physical contact such as hugs, fist pumps and handshakes.

Register with a Doctor (GP) in Bolton or near to your term time address as a priority to safeguard yourself and others around you. Don’t wait until you are ill or need a doctor. Register as soon as possible with a Doctor (GP).

Whilst in the University adhere to University Policy on Social Distancing, for classroom-based activities social distancing is 1 metre plus, classrooms have been laid out to support this and in other areas 2 metres social distancing will be in place. Please do not move any furniture.

If you see other students or staff without face coverings, there may be a very good reason for this. Not all disabilities are visible. Note: We advise people to respectfully challenge.

DO NOT attend campus if you are displaying any symptoms of COVID-19, if you are displaying symptoms take a COVID-19 test. Follow NHS/HM Government advice on self-isolation for COVID-19.
