Apprenticeship funding explained

Levy Paying Employers

If you have an annual pay bill over £3 million, as a levy payer you will pay 0.5% of your total annual pay bill towards apprenticeship training. You will be able to draw down your levy funds from your digital account (DAS). You will also have the opportunity to transfer up to 50% of your levy to another employer. (see Levy Transfer section)

Non-Levy Paying Employers

If you do not pay the apprenticeship levy you will be required to pay 5% towards the cost of training and assessing your apprentice. The government will pay the rest (95%) up to the funding band maximum. They’ll pay it directly to the training provider.

However, if your apprentice is aged 16-21 years old when they start their apprenticeship the government will fund all of the apprenticeship training costs, up to the maximum funding band.

Incentives

Government funding rules are regularly updated, so it is important that you check in with us to see what might have changed in the first instance at apprentieships@bolton.ac.uk.

Digital Apprenticeship Service (DAS)

In order to participate in Apprenticeships and access funding, you must have an active account on the DAS system. You can create this here or by searching Digital Apprenticeship Service.

The pricing of Apprenticeships can vary, to account for the level of study within each industry and for the duration of the course. This will be agreed prior to the start of the course and form part of the contract with the University.

We can support you with setting up your DAS account please email apprentices@bolton.ac.uk.
