Key Information

We do not have any members of staff who are qualified to deal with, at short or immediate notice, a student who is in immediate crisis, or needs urgent intervention by a medical professional.

Who are we?

The Life Lounge is a new Student Services initiative that opened in September, 2015. The Life Lounge brings together specialist services, free for students to access including:

  • Duty Student Advisors
  • Student Liaison Officers (SLOs)
  • CBT Clinic
  • Counselling

Who is the service for?

The service is open to all current students studying at the University of Bolton.

The Duty Student Advisor: What do we do?

The Life Lounge Reception is staffed by Student Advisors, known in the Life Lounge as Duty Student Advisors. The support available from a Duty Student Advisor can also be accessed by seeing or contacting a Student Advisor in the Student Centre. The Duty Student Advisor or Student Advisors (Student Centre) will be the first point of contact for all academic enquiries including:

  • Mitigating circumstances
  • Appeals
  • Suspending studies
  • Withdrawing from your studies

The Duty Student Advisor is also able to make appointments for students to see the specialist staff working in the Life Lounge including the Student Liaison Officers, Counsellor and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) Clinic.

Is there a cost?

No, the service is completely free.

The university has a fully qualified part-time Counsellor for students and this service is completely free and confidential. The service has a good understanding the particular problems facing todays students. This service is particularly useful for students wanting short term support, to speak to someone who is not involved in their personal life or academic work.

The CBT Clinic

The CBT service is provided by postgraduate students completing their training in a BABCP-accredited Postgraduate Diploma in Cognitive Behavioral Psychotherapies. Students are closely supervised in their practice and will be available for scheduled time slots to provide therapy in relation to anxiety, low mood, anger, low self-esteem, perfectionism, sleep problems, chronic health problems, bereavement and trauma.

Mental Health Advisor

The university employs a Mental Health Advisor whose role is to provide comprehensive mental health assessments and support for students with complex mental health needs who may be experiencing a crisis or deterioration in their mental state and/or mood. This is in order to identify appropriate support and where there is a need indicated, signposting information to external and internal health care and support providers.

In order to book an appointment with the Mental Health Advisor for assessment please complete the single point of access referral form, available here.
