Professor Peter Farrell is a Chartered Construction Manager (FCIOB), Chartered Surveyor (FRICS) and Chartered Engineer (FCABE, CEng). Also a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. His duties at the University include the role of programme leader for under and postgraduate construction and engineering programmes.
He has sixteen years of industry experience and thirty years in higher education. His industry training was in planning and quantity surveying. Post-qualification work was for eight years as a main contractor’s site manager, solely responsible for multi-million-pound new-build construction projects. He has also worked in the Middle East for two years as a Chartered Quantity Surveyor, followed by a move into higher education. Peter’s Masters and PhD are both from the University of Manchester.
Peter supervises PhDs and acts as a PhD internal and external examiner. He has successfully supervised perhaps 100 masters dissertations, and many more undergraduate research projects. His research interests are in the areas of health and safety, construction management, commercial management, procurement and pedagogical issues. He has experience as an External Examiner for both under and postgraduate at eight universities, including one delivered in the Sultanate of Oman. Peter is also a reviewer for academic journals, conferences and books.
Peter formerly Chaired the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) Greater Manchester Branch for three years and is now a member of the CIOB accreditation panel, and in this role, visit other universities to accredit their programmes. He has over 100 publications, including five textbooks and he has delivered papers to international peer-reviewed conferences in Australia, Singapore, Sri-Lanka, Thailand, Hong Kong, UAE, Qatar, Portugal, Czech Republic, Netherlands, Eire, Italy, USA and the UK.
