Claire Minehane

Associate Lecturer

I am Claire Minehane and here is a little about why I do what I do here at the University of Bolton.

At the prime old age of 24 I decided to quit working in banking after finding myself craving being back in a creative environment. I moved to Bolton and started my undergraduate course of Special Effects for Film and TV in September 2012. By July 2015 I had graduated this with BDes First Class honours.

I have been working within the Centre for Film FX department since 2016, originally as a Technician for the Special Effects for Film and TV course. Having completed my PGCE 14+ (14+) in May 2019 I am now an Associate Lecturer for the Special Makeup Effects course. With my knowledge for materials, mould making, life casting and sculpture I have been able to support students throughout their courses, as well as providing academic support.

I am accredited for 3M Fit testing to help ensure safety of all our students and to help them develop best practice before entering the world of work.
I have worked on behalf of Gorton Studios to teach their Summer School courses, offering introductory skills to students aged 14-17 within the area of special effects. This included blood gags, make up skills and the creation of latex half masks to be delivered within one week of content.
