Actor and University of Bolton Ambassador Kelvin Fletcher awarded Honorary Doctorate

Actor Kelvin Fletcher said he was “greatly honoured” to receive an honorary doctorate from the University of Bolton.

Kelvin, who is an Ambassador for the University, was awarded a Doctor of the University for his outstanding contribution to Entertainment and Motorsport.

The former Emmerdale star, who appeared in the series as Andy Sugden from 1996-2016, is a man of many talents.

He won the seventeenth series of BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing in 2019 and has carved out a name for himself in motorsport.

Kelvin, from Oldham, first ventured into motor racing after a visit to a motoring show with his father.

He obtained an MSA Competition Licence and won the 2012 Silverstone Classic Celebrity Challenge race.

He has been mentored by Martin Plowman during his rookie season and after three years of running in GT4 with Plowman, they have this year moved up to the GT3 class in a Bentley Continental.

Kelvin, who is also currently filming a documentary series for the BBC, said: “The University of Bolton is a tremendous institution. To all the students graduating I want to say congratulations and wish you all the very best in your future endeavours.”
