Our MSc Electric Vehicle Technology: January Start is a multi-disciplinary programme designed to take you from your bachelor’s degree in electrical, electronic, mechanical or automotive engineering and prepare you for a career developing the next generation of electric vehicles or associated technologies. Written with industry collaboration, our dedicated, knowledgeable team will cover the key areas needed to make you stand out to employers. We’ll concentrate on advanced topics such as electric machines, energy storage systems, smart sensors, automotive networks and communications protocols, and control systems.
The course is designed to address all the competencies set out by the Engineering Council and UK-SPEC and to support you to achieve professional registration as a Chartered Engineer (CEng). So, if you are an ambitious engineering graduate or a professional engineer seeking to develop an advanced understanding of electric vehicle technology, this master’s degree should prove an excellent investment in your future.

It is designed to meet the academic requirements for further learning required for professional registration as a Chartered Engineer (CEng). We’ll be seeking accreditation of the MSc Electric Vehicle Technology programme for Chartered Engineer (CEng) status from the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).

This course addresses contemporary issues in electric vehicle technology. Graduates of the course will be ready to enter the automotive industry, especially in roles requiring specialist knowledge of electric vehicles or associated technologies. In addition to developing your technical knowledge and experience, this programme will also give you greater confidence in your transferable and personal skills. These include problem-solving, critical thinking, team working, and communication.
As a graduate of this MSc, you’ll be prepared to take on advanced roles in the electric vehicle industry, such as research and development, design, integration, testing and development or manufacturing.

Home students starting this course in the first year will be required to pay a Home fee of £5,280 for the academic year 2023/24.
Overseas students starting this course in the first year will be required to pay a Overseas fee of £13,550 for the academic year 2023/24.

The course is delivered through a range of learning and teaching methods, including lectures, seminars, workshops, practical sessions and tutorials. These are supported by online discussions, activities and learning material posted on the virtual learning environment (VLE).
You’ll be expected to spend a considerable amount of time on independent learning, including research, reading, completing work for seminars, preparing for workshops, presentations or group discussions.
Several different assessment forms are employed on this programme, including examinations, portfolios, reports and presentations. Assessment serves several functions, the primary function being the method used to evaluate your achievement. However, assessment also serves to help you organise and develop your learning. Feedback from assessment serves an important educational function and can help you develop your skills and understanding of your own strengths and weaknesses.
