Faculty of Health and Wellbeing

If you wish to pursue a rewarding career in Health and Wellbeing, the University of Bolton's Faculty of Health and Wellbeing is one of the best places in the country to do so. We have a long-standing and excellent reputation among external stakeholders and collaborative partners for our high-quality and industry-relevant teaching and research and we pride ourselves on providing outstanding facilities for our students.

  • A hospital ward
  • Resuscitation suite
  • Midwifery suite
  • Consultation rooms
  • Technologically advanced anatomy visualisation system - The Anatomage Table

As well as learning in our facilities and simulated environments, it is also fundamental for our students to gain real-life experience on work placements. We have great links with numerous organisations where our students can undertake placements, these include:

  • NHS
  • Local Authority Social Care and community provision
  • Health and Social Care providers
  • Bolton Wanderers Community Trust
  • Sport and Active Living Service at Bolton Council
  • Bolton Council Play and Youth Service

Many of the programmes within the faculty are approved by professional regulatory bodies, including:

  • General Dental Council (GDC)
  • Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC)
  • Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
  • National Youth Agency (NYA)

As a Faculty of Health and Wellbeing student, you will learn in a positive and supportive learning environment. Here at Bolton, we adopt a personal approach to learning, by maintaining small class sizes and a friendly team of staff. Flexibility is a key element in both our undergraduate and postgraduate degrees. We offer a range of part-time, full-time, undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing professional development (CPD) courses, to suit our students who come from varying backgrounds.

Our programmes have been developed collaboratively with staff from professional backgrounds, local partner organisations, service users and carers. We aim to be responsive to the Health and Wellbeing industry, by responding to local needs, incorporating up to date policies and evidence-based practice to ensure that our students are given the best training possible. Research and academic activity within the Faculty of Health and Wellbeing takes place within several centres such as:

  • The Centre for Dental Sciences, the newest dental education department in England
  • School of Nursing & Midwifery which focuses on various nursing pathways and also the allied health and medical professions
  • The Health and Human Sciences Unit  includes Early Years and Childhood Studies, Community Development and Youth, Health & Social Care and Social Work. The Social Work centre is a new addition to the Health and Human Sciences Unit.
  • Clinical & Biomedical sciences which focuses on postgraduate continuing professional development modules, advanced  clinical pathways and physician associates
  • The Centre for Research for Health and Wellbeing, which focuses on research related to the health and wellbeing of groups and individuals

We ensure our teaching and research stays relevant and up to date by involving experts across our programmes who tell us what they want from graduates. This way you can develop as both a student and an employee, by understanding the needs of employers, patients and all service users within this profession. Whether you decide to embark on further studies or to become a dentist, nurse or a social worker, we have courses designed to suit you, across the broad and rewarding Health and Wellbeing sector. We are dedicated to growing talented individuals, who will make a difference to the future Health and Wellbeing workforce. At the University of Bolton, we are proud of the fact that we know our students by your name and not your student number.

Testimonials

Amalia Gervasutti

MSc Physician Associate | 2019

"I like that there is a lot of academic support which helps to facilitate my learning. There is also excellent guidance with practical skills. The self-directed learning aspects are well balanced with the lecture-delivered content. The content that is delivered in lectures is done by leading professionals in the medical industry. Further, because of the close relationship of the Trust with the university, there has been real progress in establishing the role in practice.

I would recommend it because it’s a developing role, with increasing demand. I also believe that it would be very rewarding making a difference not only to individual patients but to our health care system."

Siaka Kowar

Early Years and Childhood Studies | 2019

"The University of Bolton was a suitable place for me to study as it has a variety of different facilities that met my individual needs. The people at the university are kind and friendly, which I liked. The course I am studying opens a variety of pathways, as I was not certain on my career choice. The best thing about Bolton is they are supportive and understanding and the ability to go on work placements."

Ellisse Vernon

Adult Nursing | 2019

"The adult nursing course at the University of Bolton is outstanding; university tutors and clinical nurse tutors are very supportive and you’re not just a student ID number, at this university you are an individual with a name. The dedication and support which I have received since transferring has had an impact on me not only as a student nurse with becoming more confident but has had a positive impact on my overall grades. The clinical skills week before starting placement are brilliant and prepares you and helps you practice the skills needed on the wards. Throughout placement the clinical nurse tutors come and see you every week to ensure everything is going smoothly and to highlight any issues – if any. I couldn’t recommend studying at the University of Bolton enough – it is fantastic!"

Tom Ogden

Mellor Ceramics Dental Laboratory |

"I am writing to you to thank you for selecting such a fine young student. Wojciech Laska has been coming to my laboratory for the last two years. He has always been polite and well-mannered as well as hard-working and conscientious. He is a credit to the Centre for Dental Sciences and the time you have spent with him will stand him in good stead for his future career. As you know the dental industry is very close-knit and reputation is paramount both with quality of work and personality. Wojciech has shown to have both these qualities. I know he has been selected to go to Zirkonzhan in Italy, I would like to contribute £200 towards his travel expenses."
