Pre-Arrival Checklist

Now that you’ve received your official offer from the University of Bolton, here is a checklist of the important documentation you’ll need to bring with you to the UK.

  • Valid passport, with visa/UK entry clearance
  • Original documentation to prove financial support for tuition fees and maintenance
  • Original offer letter from the University stating your home address
  • Original documentation of your Academic qualifications as listed on your CAS
  • Travel and Health certificates
  • Details of your destination, including where you plan on staying in the UK
  • British currency – You must make sure you have enough money to support yourself for the first few weeks. Please remember there is a limit of how much cash you can bring to the UK so you may also want to bring a debit/credit card.
  • You will also need to collect your BRP card before enrolment. You can collect this at the Post Office located in Bolton (Oxford Street) near the train station. For more information on BRP cards, please visit ( https://www.gov.uk/biometric-residence-permits)

Arriving in the UK

The closest airport to the University of Bolton is Manchester International Airport. The University of Bolton offers a free taxi service for all new international students arriving at Manchester Airport to an address in Bolton. To request the taxi pick up service, please complete the booking form below before you travel.

Induction

After you have completed your enrolment, please explore your Online Induction and take some time to learn about university life and support available to you.

Make sure to access your Course Induction tile, where you can find important information added by your Programme tutors. This includes your timetable and contact details for staff.

This information will always be available to you throughout your time at the University so you are always kept up to date.

Remember, you need to complete your enrolment before you can access your Online Induction.

Enrolment in 5 Steps

Once you have met all the conditions of your offer you will be sent an enrolment invitation via email. Please read this and the attachments carefully as it forms the basis of your contract with the University. Click into each step below to find out more information.

Your Invitation to Enrol

Your enrolment invitation contains all the important information you need about enrolling and step-by-step guidance. Enrolment is an entirely online process and you can follow the links in the documents sent to you or here on this page.

Now that you have enrolled on your course, your next step is to explore the welcome and induction area and Complete the LEAP Ahead Questionnaire to receive your tailored support action plan and personal tutor details.

Complete the Enrolment Form

You will be asked for your provisional student number (shown on your offer letters or enrolment invitation) and your date of birth. This will generate your account details to enable you to complete enrolment. You will be asked to read the Terms and Conditions of Enrolment carefully and accept that you agree to them. There will also be a few short questions that we need to collect the answers to from you.

Upload your Photo

Once you have enrolled online, you will be asked to upload a photo for your ID card and virtual ID card. Your virtual ID card will appear on the MyBolton app which you should download as soon as you can. Your physical ID card will be distributed as soon as possible after the start of your course.

ID Check

Once you have completed enrolment you will be asked to upload a copy of your ID documentation. We need to see this to make sure you have the right to study in the UK. Full details of acceptable forms of ID documents are provided with your enrolment invitation or you can check (https://www.bolton.ac.uk/welcome/enrolment-instructions)

When you arrive, we’ll arrange to meet you on campus to check your documents. You’ll need to provide proof of your identify in the form of a valid Passport and evidence of your permission to study in the UK in the form of a Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) and the letter from the UKVI which accompanies your visa. You will also need to provide original copies of your academic qualifications as stated on your CAS.

If you have made an application to the Home Office to extend or renew your visa you must bring with you a Home Office letter confirming receipt of your visa application or proof of postage to the Home Office (this should be your post office/courier receipt showing the postcode of the destination).

Attend your Course Induction

You will be sent information about your programme induction separately so please keep an eye out for this information coming through. It’s really important you attend your course induction as this sets you up for the start of teaching and provides all the essential knowledge you’ll need about how your programme works.

The official app for the University of Bolton. providing useful information, tools. news. events and updates for enquirers, applicants, students, staff and alumni. For current students using the app will keep you up-to-date with all of the developments on campus and help you manage your day-to-day life on or off campus. You will be able to access your timetable. emails. moodle. library account. calendar. PC availability, advice and Support, campus maps, student hub and much more.

Get a head start

Take some time before you arrive to make sure you’ve applied for Student Finance and Accommodation and find out as much as you can about studying at Bolton, our friendly town and Student Union activities.

Living in Halls of Residence is the best way to make instant friends and get the support you need when moving away from home.

If you’re not a local then you’ll want to find out a bit more about our friendly town, the nearby city of Manchester and activities to keep you occupied outside of the classroom.

If you are funding your studies through Student Finance England it’s important to apply as soon as possible as there may be a delay if you leave it too long. There is further information about Student Finance, budgeting and money management and contact details for our funding advisors if you have any queries.

If you are not local to the area, it's really important to register with a GP as soon as you know your term time address. GPs provide a range of non-emergency services by appointment which include examinations, medication prescriptions, vaccinations and referrals

The University of Bolton Sports Centre boasts a multi-use four-court sports hall available for hire for a range of activities, such as badminton, 5-a-side football, volleyball and much more.

Want to meet new people? Take part in social sport activities, fitness classes and experience climbing a 50ft climbing wall.

Feeling adventurous? Book a session to the Anderton Centre, the outdoor activity centre, where you can try archery, water sports and team building. Book onto the free Anderton Centre session every Wednesday, from 12:30-4:30pm – transport included.

Get yourself lined up with a club or society or two or find out how to start your own. Make sure you don’t miss out of any of the SU’s Welcome Week activities too.

LEAP Online is our award-winning digital development programme for new and continuing students. It supports your academic and personal development through online resources, videos and activities. You earn digital badges along the way as you progress through four key areas.

The Library provides access to a huge range of resources to support your studies. Start searching with Discover@Bolton and explore over 200,000 eBooks, a huge selection of online journals and databases, and print book collections at our library sites. The Library also provides a range of study spaces and help and support and runs LEAP Live workshops on a wide range of topics throughout the year.

LEAP Forward - Personal Academic Tutoring
Personal Academic Tutoring interventions have been developed to provide high quality academic and pastoral support to students during all levels of their student journey.

LEAP Together - Peer Support
The Peer Support service is provided by our students for our students and gives you the pastoral care you need to transition and thrive at university.

You will be able to view your personal timetable via the myBolton app once you are fully enrolled and your ID has been verified. Please download the app on App Store and Google Play.

However, you can check your overall course timetable right now by clicking here and searching for your course in the ‘Resources’ bar.

Outdoor Adventures at the Anderton Centre

The Anderton Centre based at Lower Rivington Reservoir, offers high-quality and unique experiences for all our students. The Centre uses adventure and problem-solving activities to build confidence, increase self-esteem, develop teamwork and independence. You will have the opportunity to take part in enrichment activities to enhance your university experience. You will have the opportunity to undertake a range of activities, including archery, camping, kayaking, paddle boarding, canoeing, problem-solving, orienteering, and wall climbing. We are sure the centre will be a great source of enjoyment for you.
