The Health and Social Care Workers Behind the Scenes Keeping Our Country Running

Keyworkers, for example health and social care workers, across the country are fighting hard to keep those suffering from coronavirus safe, but many of those working on the front line aren’t in hospitals. For most of the country, there is only a small portion of people who are working in intensive care units looking after those who are the sickest.

Across the country, there are thousands of people giving health and social care to those who are not in hospitals. For most, it is business as usual as their workplaces look and act the same. Their work is just as vital as doctors and nurses in hospitals, so let us take a look at the lesser-known heroes of the nation.

Care Homes

As most of us are aware, people over the age of 70 are more vulnerable to this virus, primarily because their immune systems aren’t quite as strong as they were, and most are likely to have some medical issues already.

In care homes, the elderly are being looked after by health care workers. These keyworkers are dedicated to helping those whose family struggle to support them, whether that be financially, medically, or just having enough time. It is a tremendously rewarding role filled with incredible morale and teamwork. Health care workers are heading into these homes and looking after those who are most vulnerable.
