FndCert Fast-track to Higher Education (Nursing)

• Please note that this course is only available to Home students.
• Normally, you’ll have at least five GCSEs at grade C or above or grade 4 to 9 (or equivalent) including English and Mathematics. Please contact us for a list of acceptable GCSE equivalents.
• You must also have a period of work experience in a relevant area such as health care, and be able to provide evidence of learning at Level 3.
• If you're planning to change career and have qualifications in a discipline unrelated to nursing or health care, we'll be happy to consider your application.
• If your application is successfully short-listed, then you’ll be asked to undertake a numeracy and literacy assessment. If you’re successful during this phase, then you’ll be invited for interview.
• The interview process will involve face-to-face interviews with academic staff, practice staff and service users. You’ll also be assessed on your values, behaviours, communication and problem solving skills. We’re seeking students who can demonstrate commitment to a nursing career, who have excellent communication skills and who are caring, compassionate and courageous.
• If you’re successful at the interview stage, you’ll be asked to undergo occupational health screening and a DBS check.
• You’ll need to demonstrate that you’re of good health and good character and satisfactorily pass occupational health screening.
• The BSc (Hons) Nursing (Adult) degree course involves working unsupervised with vulnerable adults and you must gain an Enhanced Disclosure certificate from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) before starting your degree-level studies. Charges are payable to cover the cost of the DBS Enhanced Disclosure application and annual registration with the online Update Service.

Where changes are made to material information contained in this course description or a decision is taken to suspend a course between the offer of admissions and enrolment, we will inform applicants at the earliest possible opportunity and will outline the various options available to the applicant.

On successful completion of this 9-week programme, it’s expected that you’ll progress to a BSc (Hons) Nursing (Adult) degree in the following May/June (subject to meeting all other entry criteria). Depending on your prior qualifications and experience, you may also be accepted on alternative programmes offered by the University.

Important note regarding tuition fees for the 2020-2021 academic year: EU nationals who meet residency requirements (have settled or pre-settled status) may be eligible for 'Home' fee status. If you do not meet these residency requirements, overseas fees will apply. Irish citizens living in the UK or Ireland will be eligible for 'Home' fee status under the Common Travel Area arrangement. The fees for a student's course of study will be set for the normal duration of that course subject only to inflationary increases – measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI) recorded in March each year to take effect for subsequent start dates.

We use a variety of teaching and learning methods to help you acquire and develop the appropriate skills, knowledge and concepts needed to successfully complete the course.

Activities such as practical sessions/scenes, seminars, tutorials, self-directed study, lectures, video viewing and analysis, tutorials, IT sessions, library and guided study promote active learning. We adopt a variety of practical approaches using a blended learning environment. We also use a virtual learning environment website to share additional learning materials, course content and support resources.

Summative assessments are designed to determine whether you have met the learning outcomes for each module. You can expect to undertake both written and verbal summative assessments. We also use formative assessments to help you and your tutors check your progress, including in-class activities and group work. These do not, however, count towards your final module marks.
