If you’re looking to pursue a psychology-related career or further professional training in psychology, this highly regarded conversion course is ideal. Maybe you’re considering a future in educational, occupational or clinical psychology, but don’t have enough credits in psychology at undergraduate level. Or perhaps your psychology degree didn’t come with eligibility for the Graduate Basis for Chartership of the British Psychological Society. Either way, this course is a great solution.
The programme modules cover specific areas of psychology equivalent to those in the British Psychological Society‘s qualification exam, and will give you an opportunity to achieve a firm grounding in psychological theories, approaches and research methods.
While most of your modules will be at Master’s level, you can expect to study in classes alongside our undergraduate students. Learning alongside our undergraduates offers you the opportunity to share in a wider variety of opinions and experiences, helping to broaden your view of psychology. We then offer separate Master’s-level tutorials, designed specifically for our MSc Psychology (Conversion) students, to support your achievement of postgraduate academic and critique skills.

This programme is accredited as conferring eligibility for the Graduate Basis for Chartership (GBC) of the British Psychological Society (BPS), provided you successfully complete the course by passing all the prescribed modules with an overall average mark of at least 50%.

The MSc Psychology (Conversion) is a conversion course for graduates who wish to pursue a professional career in psychology; for instance, in educational, occupational or clinical psychology.
On successful completion of the course, you’ll possess enhanced intellectual and thinking skills, problem solving, interpersonal awareness, communication skills and the ability to develop arguments supported by relevant evidence, team work and IT and data handling skills.
There are numerous career paths available to psychology graduates with British Psychological Society (BPS) accreditation. The more traditional careers include counselling and clinical psychology, occupational or educational psychology, mental health, forensic psychology, cognitive behavioural therapy, and sport and exercise psychology. In addition, there are broader career options, including personnel management, research, teaching, social work and health.
Postgraduate options include further studies at Master’s or PhD level. Graduates can also progress to graduate schemes, which are long term employment contracts usually with a large corporate company offering advanced training packages.
Although some psychology graduates become professional psychologists, many others go on work in related fields. Graduates can use the qualification to enter a range of other careers, and for some of these roles, both relevant experience and/or postgraduate study may be required. Some of these careers include:

The fees for a student’s course of study will be set for the normal duration of that course subject only to inflationary increases – measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI) recorded in March each year to take effect for subsequent start dates.

Teaching and learning on a University of Bolton psychology course focuses on you. Our 'student-centred' approach adopts a welcome variety of teaching and learning techniques to support you as you acquire and develop key concepts, knowledge and skills – and work towards your study goals. Our emphasis on ‘active learning’ means you’ll have the chance to enjoy hands-on practical classes, fieldwork, lab-based workshops, seminars and tutorials, as well as self-directed study.
Assessment methods are also varied, allowing you to demonstrate your learning in a range of ways. For example, module assessments will include coursework such as essays, research reports, critical reviews, practical reports and statistical assignments – plus presentations, a course project report and traditional exams. Assessment methods will vary according to each module’s content and desired outcome.
