Environmental sustainability is the responsibility that we are all under to look after our planet as individuals, businesses, and institutions. As an educational institution, we strive for the highest standards, and that includes our commitment to being as eco-friendly as possible.
Understanding the Importance of Sustainability
Businesses and institutions have long realised that sustainability matters, and what is just as important is how they plan to act and develop their commitment to reducing their impact on the environment.
The reasons why this is important have been highlighted many times. And there are many aspects to environmental damage too.
For example, 9 in 10 people across the globe breathe polluted air, which has a long-term impact on health. The major contributor to polluted air is the burning of fossil fuels.
Another major environmental concern, and one that has come to prominence in the last few months, is our consumption of one-use plastics and where plastic ends its journey when we have finished with it. More than 80% of the plastic consumed globally makes its way into the oceans. Some of this plastic is so small, that we cannot see it, and neither can sea creatures, including fish. And that means we unwittingly consume it when we eat seafood.
