How much is being offered & what it covers

We are offering £10,000 towards tuition fees only for 1-year or 18 months postgraduate taught courses.

Key dates to be aware of

The scholarship opens on 24 October 2022 and the deadline to apply is 30 June 2023.

Eligibility requirements

Be a passport holder of Ghana, Kenya or Malaysia.
Hold an unconditional offer and pass eligibility to study assessment for September 2023 intake
Have a strong motivation and ability to excel on a masters’ programme
Possess extensive work experience or interest in your subject area
Meet the entry and English language requirements of your masters’ course

Courses and study level

Open to all 1-year or 18 months postgraduate programmes starting in September 2023

Expectations of award winners

Be willing to embody the UK Higher Education experience, by attending lectures and tutorials and engaging with extra-curricular activities.
Act as ambassador for the University of Bolton and UK Higher Education, by promoting the value of studying at a UK HEI
Be willing to establish an engagement with the UK as a scholar, through personal and academic fulfilment
Represent the high standards of the GREAT brand by becoming an advocate for scholarships
Be willing to attend a networking event of all UK-based GREAT scholars, to discuss experiences and capture perceptions of studying in the UK
Be willing to demonstrate future contribution to capacity-building and socio-economic advancement through the benefits achieved after graduating from UK higher education
As an alumnus of the GREAT scholarships, willing occasionally to speak to potential candidates about his or her own experience of studying in the UK.

What the scholarship is about

The GREAT scholarships are jointly funded by the University of Bolton, the UK governments’ GREAT Britain campaign and the British Council. The scheme will offer financial support to 3 postgraduate students from Ghana, Kenya and Malaysia to experience world class UK education in the number 1 university in the North West of England for student satisfaction and teaching quality.
