Bolton and University Life

The University of Bolton campus is located in the heart of Bolton. Known as one of the UK's most vibrant and famously friendly towns, Bolton makes for a perfect learning destination. The town has great transport links and is just 10 miles from Manchester – a city famous for its shopping, music, nightlife and culture.

Bolton

Bolton has a renowned and growing cultural scene, which includes the nationally acclaimed Octagon Theatre, an annual food and drink festival and a multi-cultural winter festival. The town has a uniquely rich cultural and industrial history; the beautiful town hall, gallery and museum, as well as the famous Octagon Theatre and the performance venue The Albert Halls- all of which are just a few minutes’ walk from campus. Behind the town hall is the famous Le Mans Crescent which was named after Bolton’s twinned town of Le Mans in France, the home of endurance motor-racing. We also have one of the oldest pubs in Britain, Ye Olde Man & Scythe which dates back to 1251 as well as a series of new bars and major restaurants in the town centre, such as those hosted in the Vaults at Market Place, Bolton. There is also a 12 screen luxury multiplex cinema, ten-pin bowling, shops, and hotels and 24-hour supermarkets can be found just a few minutes from the Deane Road Campus. Free live music events and regular student nights are on offer at many venues. As well as a lively nightlife, Bolton is famous for its sporting tradition. From Championship football team Bolton Wanderers at the Macron Stadium to state-of-the-art facilities built for the Commonwealth Games, Bolton has everything for the casual sports-fan or pro-athlete. Outside the university, there are public football pitches, golf courses, riding schools, sports centres and public swimming pools as well as facilities for a wide range of other sports. Bolton Arena is the Regional Tennis Centre and hosts national tennis events. There are also fantastic sports facilities provided by the University of Bolton.

Manchester & Salford

Just 17 minutes by train from Bolton is Manchester; one of the UK’s most multicultural and liveliest cities. Here you can find even more culture, attractions and vibrant nightlife.

Whether you are looking for high end, designer retailers in Spinningfields; a taste of culture and history around Castlefield or a vintage bargain and quality coffee in the Northern Quarter – you are in a great place to benefit from what the city of Manchester has to offer. There are world-class museums, theatres and international cinemas, legendary music venues and a wealth of eateries and student-friendly shops.

The North West & Further Afield

Bolton enjoys being surrounded by stunning scenery.

The West Pennine moors area is only 2.5 miles from campus and offers some of the North of England’s most beautiful countryside with lakes and reservoirs, historic ruins and ancient sites. From here, you have the perfect base to explore the North West of England coastline, the Peak District to the south or the breath-taking Lake District to the North which has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2017.

International Links

International travel could not be simpler, Bolton enjoys a direct train link to Manchester Airport – the busiest UK airport outside of London! So whether it’s returning home or onward travel, being at Bolton will mean you always feel connected.
