As a graduate from the University of Greater Manchester you will be entitled to wear Academic Dress bearing our University colours. You can hire your academic robe, mortar board and hood from the University’s official robe supplier, William Northam.
If you are struggling with any aspect of the Academic Dress booking process, you can contact William Northam directly here. Please note the booking website will ask you for your student ID number and your surname as listed on our student record system.
Robe booking deadline
Please ensure you have booked your academic dress (if you wish to wear it) by 5pm on Tuesday 1 July 2025.
If you do not order your academic dress by the deadline, William Northam may not be able to accommodate at the last minute.
Graduation ceremonies, while formal events, are family celebration events and guests are asked to follow a smart casual dress code, or traditional national dress where appropriate.
You may want to consider how your gown will fall over your outfit and how it will be attached (usually they are pinned or attached to a button if wearing a shirt).
When considering your footwear, please note that there are stairs that go up to the ceremony hall with steps up and down from the stage.
Academic dress collection
If you have pre-booked your academic dress it will be available to collect from Y0-02, Greater Manchester Business School (GMBS). You can collect your gown from 8am on the day of your Graduation ceremony.
Only Graduands are allowed to enter the robing area, and your guests are asked to wait outside the GMBS building.
Academic Dress Return
You will need to return your academic dress to Y1-05 in Greater Manchester Business School (GMBS), by 7pm on the day of your ceremony.
