In (1996), Tracey completed a Diploma in Professional studies in adult nursing at the Northern College of Nursing, Midwifery and Health visiting and entered onto part 12 of the professional register. Tracey then completed a BSc (Hons) in Nursing studies attaining a (2:1) Classification at the University of Salford. As part of this programme, she acquired the Teaching and Assessing in Clinical Practice qualification.
Following this, Tracey completed a PGCE at the University of Central Lancashire. Tracey has worked clinically for 16 years, mainly within a surgical setting and has worked within a variety of clinical posts. Her last clinical appointment was working in the capacity of ward manager within a surgical assessment unit. Tracey has worked within education since 2009 in a variety of posts including, Clinical Skills Tutor, Practice Development Sister, Lead Educator and Pre Registration Educator before becoming a lecturer at the University of Bolton.
