Senior Lecturer and Programme Lead

Dr. Naveed Islam is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Computing at the School of Creative Technologies, University of Greater Manchester (formerly University of Bolton), with over 15 years of combined academic and industry experience. He currently serves as the Programme Leader for both the BSc and MSc Artificial Intelligence programmes, where he oversees curriculum development, academic quality, and strategic enhancement to ensure alignment with industry trends and emerging technologies.

Dr. Islam has played leading roles in numerous international research and development (R&D) initiatives, delivering innovative, real-world solutions across diverse sectors, such as healthcare, smart agriculture, intelligent sensor systems, the Internet of Things (IoT), and cybersecurity. He has held multiple academic leadership positions, contributing significantly to curriculum design, pedagogical innovation, quality assurance, and institutional strategy within higher education. His research expertise spans Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), Computer Vision (CV), Data Science, and Information Security, with a strong focus on interdisciplinary collaboration and application-oriented outcomes. Deeply committed to inclusive, high-quality education, Dr. Islam integrates research-led teaching with student-centred learning practices.

He holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning in Higher and Professional Education (UK) and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA).
