University of Bolton, why we are the right choice

I graduated with a BSc (Hons) in Human Sciences and MPH in Public Health. My PhD thesis is titled ‘Understanding the dynamics of service user participation in health a provision: a case study approach’. I obtained my PgCert Teaching and Learning in Higher and Professional Education from the University of Bolton. Following this, I became a certified Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA).
I am currently the Academic Coordinator-Student Recruitment and Retention for the Health and Social Care and Social Work Division; Clinical and Biomedical Sciences and Centre for Dental Technology - within the Faculty of Health and Wellbeing.
I lead a faculty-wide initiative around Service User Involvement in Higher Education and act as the Erasmus+ Coordinator for the Faculty of Health and Wellbeing.
Teaching responsibilities:
I am currently a Senior Lecturer and teach across the BSc/HND Health and Social Care undergraduate degree and Master’s in Social care, Health and Wellbeing. I also supervise undergraduate and postgraduate dissertation projects.
Other teaching responsibility included the District Nursing and Health Visiting programme – teaching 2 core modules: Exploring Public Health and Critical Evaluation and Evidence Based Practice, both at Levels HE 6 and 7.
Some previous roles involved working as a Research Assistant/Consultant around patient and public involvement on various projects, a Clinical Services Development Manager. I have consulted and assisted with various service user involvement initiatives with local health and social care organisations in Bolton, such as Bolton CCG; MSK service Bolton, Bolton CVS, Bolton Healthwatch.
Research interests and research subject specialisms:
My specialist research interest is patient and public involvement in health and social care provision/service - exploring how to use service users’ views and experience to drive change in health and social care. I currently sit on a working group on the Living with and Beyond Cancer Project which is a joint project between Macmillan Cancer and Bolton NHS Foundation Trust, which reviews the patients experience of cancer care services delivered in Bolton.
Other research/subject specialisms include: Pubic Health; Global Health; service users experience of care; service user involvement in higher education; qualitative research methods/methodologies; transition activities from FE to HE.
Most recent research development (October 2019) – invitation to be a member of the Health Innovation Manchester (HInM) Public and Patient Involvement and Engagement (PPIE) Strategy for Greater Manchester.

Conferences, seminars and workshops:
Jan 2016 - Till date: Lead facilitator for all service user involvement seminar and training/workshops – delivered various training/workshop sessions to our service user members such as Safeguarding, Equality and Diversity, value based recruitment, interview process and shortlisting, Patient as Coach Team (PaCT) training workshop, student assessment, attending curriculum development meeting and validation events.
May 2016 – Till Date: student recruitment and retention activities (at Schools, Colleges and various local organisation)
June 2015 – Till date: Erasmus+ partnership development. Two successes with universities in Finland and Denmark, to foster staff and student mobility within the faculty of health and wellbeing
Some selected conferences:
February 2017: Doing it Differently: Championing Change in Health and Social Care. A Bolton wide patient and public involvement conference held at the University if Bolton in Collaboration with Bolton Healthwatch. Part of working group in planning, organising and facilitating the conference.
April 2017: Lived Experience Network (LEN) Conference A national conference in collaboration with LEN, held at the University of Bolton – Organised, facilitated and presented at the conference
September 2017: NET Conference. Presented a research paper. Output publication see above under publication.
