Dr. Gideon Sorochi Okorie, a distinguished Global healthcare leader, educator, and healthcare management innovator, is deeply committed to societal well-being. His career epitomises excellence and an unwavering dedication to improving the lives of others. A proud alumnus of the University of Nigeria, he began his medical journey at the renowned Nigerian Navy Reference Hospital, Ojo, Lagos, where his meticulous attention to detail and dedication to patient care earned him a position beyond his internship. During his tenure with the National Youth Service Corps in Emure LGA, Lagos State, he played a pivotal role in pioneering a clinic for a Catholic Church, laying the groundwork for a lifetime of impactful service.
Dr. Okorie's career took an international turn when he joined St. George's University, Grenada, as a Teaching and Research Faculty member from 2010 to 2013. He delivered engaging lectures in pharmacology, pathophysiology, clinical skills, and biological sciences there, leaving an indelible mark on his students. His experience during this period ignited his passion for public health practice and the transformative power of education, inspiring hope and a brighter future for his students. He intentionally provided population interventions, especially for those who need them most, demonstrating his global perspective and commitment to diverse communities.

Returning to Nigeria, Dr. Okorie joined the National Agency for the Control of HIV/AIDS (NACA) in 2013, where he was entrusted with significant responsibilities. As a Principal Programme Officer in the Healthcare Support Response Department, he not only coordinated HIV/STI testing programming and technical support to the National AIDS and STI Control Programme and National Primary Healthcare Development Agency, but also led a team of dedicated professionals. His visionary leadership in these roles earned him international acclaim and a prestigious World Bank Scholarship to pursue an MSc in Public Health Policy at the KIT Royal Tropical Institute in the Netherlands. As one of three members of the NACA-MDG Coordinator, he orchestrated HIV awareness campaigns across 30 states in Nigeria, reaching over 250,000 persons with HIV tests and other SRHR prevention services.

Dr. Okorie's impact on the healthcare system is significant. He initiated and implemented policies to expand free access to HIV services for the general population and pregnant women, specifically including grant making. As PMTCT National Coordinator, he adeptly managed Global Fund and MDG portfolios exceeding $60 million, partnering with esteemed international organisations such as the Global Fund, PEPFAR, and the World Bank. Dr. Okorie consistently offered technical support to the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency and the National AIDS and STI Control Programme on HIV programming. Amid the challenges of COVID-19, Dr. Okorie further demonstrated his expertise by providing technical support to the Nigerian Presidential Advisory Council on COVID-19 mitigation measures while seconded to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, leaving a lasting impact on the healthcare system.

Shortly after completing his Master's in Public Health, focusing on Health System Policy and Management, Dr. Okorie graduated with a Distinction with an MBA in Global Healthcare Management from the University of Greater Manchester, UK. His academic achievements, including exploring academic experience across three continents, demonstrate his commitment to continuous learning and his expertise in healthcare management. This commitment to learning has broadened his horizons and allowed him to bring innovative ideas to the healthcare field. While pursuing his MBA, he facilitated a strategic international partnership between the University of Greater Manchester and the Ebonyi State Government, Nigeria. He secured placements for 128 students in Master's programmes in courses with future relevance, demonstrating his influence and impact in the global education arena.

As a senior lecturer, Dr Okorie is the Programme Lead for the MBA in Global Healthcare Management and the Unit Lead for Population and Social Science at the Institute of Medical Sciences, University of Greater Manchester. He also teaches Person-Centred Care and Integration and Collaboration modules to Master’s students in Health and Social Care, inspiring future healthcare leaders with his dynamic teaching and curriculum development approach.

Undertaking a PhD in AI applications in healthcare, focusing on emergency preparedness and health system strengthening, Dr. Okorie remains at the forefront of innovation and is committed to bridging the gaps between global health policy, medical education, and technology's transformative potential. His relentless drive for excellence continues to shape global health outcomes and inspire a new generation of compassionate, forward-thinking professionals.
