Location - Bolton, Greater Manchester
Directions to the Main Reception and Chancellor’s Mall
From the North (A666 Southbound)
From the A666 southbound, exit and follow signs for Town Centre South (A579).
At the end of the exit slip road turn right onto Lower Bridgeman Street (A579, following signs for University, Deane Campus).
On this road, please ensure you are in the middle lane.
You will reach a T-junction where you want to follow the road to the right, following signs for A579.
Almost immediately you will come to the next set of lights, keep and turn left onto Trinity Street, again, following signs for set of lights, then Morrisons on right and Sainsburys on left at 2nd set of lights).
You will see the edge of campus as you travel along Trinity Street which turns into Derby Street (A579).
You will approach a major junction at the edge of campus, where you will see Aldi on your left and Bolton One on your right.
From the East (A58 Westbound)
From A58 proceed straight on onto A579. Follow this road, you will pass Lexus garage on your right.
At next junction fork left still following A579, go straight through next 2 sets of lights (second set major junction).
On this road, please ensure you are in the middle lane.
You will reach a T-junction where you want to follow the road to the right, following signs for A579.
Almost immediately you will come to the next set of lights, keep and turn left onto Trinity Street, again, following signs for A579. Follow this road (past the train station on your right at the set of lights).
You will see the edge of campus as you travel along Trinity Street which turns into Derby Street (A579). You will approach a major junction at the edge of campus, where you will see Aldi on your left and Bolton One on your right.
From the South (M61 Northbound connecting from M60 or M62)
Exit M61 motorway at Junction 4 northbound and take the 3rd exit at the roundabout.
Continue on Watergate Lane until you reach the T-junction.
Turn left onto Plodder Lane and continue until you reach a T-junction.
Turn right onto St. Helens Road (A579). Proceed straight all the way into Bolton (approx. 2 miles).
When you drive past Lidl on the left-hand side, you are approaching the University campus.
From the West (M61 Southbound)
Continue on Watergate Lane until you reach the T-junction.
From here please follow directions above for travelling to the University from the South.
The University of Bolton is located just 20 miles from Manchester Airport and we would recommend all international students who are flying to the UK to arrive here.
Train to Bolton
Manchester Airport has a mainline train station where you can get a direct train to Bolton for as little as £3.70 up to £7.40 (updated June 2023). The journey will only take 40 minutes and finding the station is very easy, just follow the signs in the airport terminal.

Taxi to Bolton
When you leave the airport there will be black cab taxis waiting outside and you can also book a taxi with Street Cars who have a desk or booth in arrivals. They are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. They are perfectly safe and reliable.
