University of Bolton, why we are the right choice

We live in a world that has fought many battles and still is fighting to provide a diverse, inclusive, and equal environment for all. Diversity is not optional, it is essential, it allows you to cater for different cultures and is highly important to upkeep in a health and social care work environment.
A person's race, age, background, abilities, or lifestyle does not defy the support they deserve, nobody should be treated unfairly especially when seeking professional help. Diversity is a way of understanding the many different perspectives and backgrounds in society so everyone can benefit from suitable support. It is important you as a worker:
- Appreciate and respect other cultures beliefs, and values
- Provide accessible and fair services to everyone involved
- Celebrate differences
- Learn about your patients’ cultures, beliefs, and values to have a better understanding and promote further equality
No one should feel as if they have to hide who they are as a person. Therefore, it is also very important that you as a worker make sure all patients and/or clients do not reach a state of social exclusion or social isolation. If they do get to that point, it can be a huge negative impact on both their mental and physical wellbeing. This means you need to ensure they are active in the community that is around them and support them finding a place where they feel socially accepted to happily display their beliefs and culture.
There are many legislations in place to ensure that you provide diverse support, some including:
- The Human Right Act 1998
- The Equality Act 2010
- The Care Act 2014
