Careers Service

The Careers Service can provide help and impartial guidance to all students. Practical help and advice on CVs and portfolios, job hunting and skills development is provided by a professional team of careers advisers. The team also works with employers, agencies and other organisations involved in student and graduate recruitment.

Considering a part-time job to help support your time at university? The Jobshop is designed to help students who would like to find part-time work in and around Bolton. It keeps in close contact with employers, job centres and schools within the university. The team advises students on the minimum wage, tax and national insurance, becoming self-employed, and gaining additional skills like leadership, communication or organisational skills which are in great demand by employers. Students can also find out more about volunteering.

The university recommends that no student exceeds 16 hours of part-time paid work during term time. The careers team understand the financial and other demands placed on students, the requirements of employers and the changing graduate recruitment market.

The Careers Service can be found in the Student Centre, Eagle Mall.

Students can pop along to the service or make an appointment via the help desk. Many new students familiarise themselves with the careers service and its opening times in the first few days after joining the university – even if they only use the services later.

The Freshers’ Fair takes place in Eagle Mall, next to the Student Centre and Careers Service.
