At the University of Bolton we strive to provide the best possible support to all of our students and graduates to help them gain employment and reach and achieve their career goals and aspirations. Whether you are studying on a full-time or part-time basis, or you are an undergraduate or postgraduate student, we offer a range of careers and employability support adapted for your individual needs.

We can help you with exploring your career options, applying for job vacancies, writing a CV and covering letter, starting your own business, finding a work placement and developing those skills and attributes that employers look for.

The Careers Service is also home to the University of Bolton jobshop, where you can find part-time, holiday and volunteering work.

If you’re serious about your future, our annual careers fair is an unmissable event. More than 70 companies and organisations attend, and it’s a great way for you to meet employers keen to recruit University of Bolton graduates.

Career-Ready Courses

Employability is embedded in all our courses. The skills and knowledge you develop on a University of Bolton degree are work-ready: they equip you with everything you need to start a career straight away.

Course facilities are state-of-the-art, and on many courses you’ll be working with industry-standard equipment. Engineering students, for example, use an aerodynamic-testing wind tunnel, and industry-standard Computer Aided Design (CAD) software. Health students use the Anatomage Table in our Clinical Simulation Suite, which is the most technologically advanced visualisation system for anatomy education.

Working With Employers

The University of Bolton understands the value of bringing together the rich experience of the corporate world with the innovation of academia.

We have a number of partnerships with businesses, which allows us to combine provide real-world knowledge to our courses and invaluable experience to our students.

Multinational clothing brand Decathlon, for example, has created graduate internships specifically for Bolton students, and also created volunteering opportunities as ‘Bolton Decathletes’, with the aim of developing employability while helping the local community by encouraging more people to get more active.

The Bolton Award

Employability & Enterprise

It’s never too early to be thinking about your future career. Throughout your degree you’ll have the chance to take placements, do voluntary work, and build your portfolio.

The Bolton Award is a free extracurricular employability and enterprise course, which requires a commitment of 35 hours, and can be completed at your own pace. It’ll give you access to careers advice, work placements, and volunteering experience. You also develop skills such as CV writing and interview practice.

By the time you graduate you’ll have an enviable range of extra-curricular experience to show employers, and the skills you need to impress in interviews.
