Richard Whitehead

Lecturer

After starting in the legal profession in 1999, Richard spent 12 years in a Manchester city centre practice, progressing from NQ solicitor to Associate level, undertaking a management role since 2004. Throughout this time Richard undertook the training and professional development of solicitors he was responsible for. In addition to his varied management responsibilities, Richard continued with his civil litigation practice, focusing on complex matters on the fast and multi-tracks.

Richard has joined the university in the role of Lecturer in Legal Education and Practice as a qualified solicitor and also remains in practice as Head of Department at a local Bolton firm.

Richard delivers modules on the Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE) programme. Richard utilizes his experience as a practicing solicitor and manager of many teams and departments of solicitors and brings a commerciality & practical approach that will enhance the University’s delivery of the legal professional and academic programmes. In addition, the 20 years plus of litigation & court experience that Richard has, brings a know-how that gives a practical & professional edge to the training of the advocacy, drafting, legal research and the other practical skills for the aspiring lawyers at the School of Law.
