I am the course leader for the BSc Visual Effects Animation. I have hugely enjoyed transferring my experience from industry into academia and using my skills and knowledge to build the profile of our degree so that our graduates have gained national recognition and employment with a whole host of VFX studios including Oscar winners DNEG, Framestore, MPC, The Mill, and ILM.
I love balancing industry work alongside my academic teaching. I have worked as a Lead Look Development Artist on the globally released film “Other Side of the Door” (2016), which grossed over ten million pounds worldwide. I gain an immense amount of satisfaction from researching new industry VFX techniques and distilling those methods down into teaching material to enhance the knowledge of our undergraduate students.
As a VFX staff team, we are constantly looking to develop our industry skills and have been lucky enough to work on the following films and shows: BBC – History Cold Case (2008), Monsters: Dark Continent (2014), Other Side of the Door (2016), Revolt (2017), The Titan (2018) - starring Sam Worthington, The Aftermath (2018) – starring Keira Knightley. It is this current industry experience that keeps our lectures and teaching material at the forefront of industry developments.
I am also very passionate about developing computer-based techniques that can enhance practical SFX projects. This can be techniques in ZBrush and Photoshop to help efficiently produce concept art for practical builds. In the more technical aspects of my work, I am also programming tools that allow artists to determine clay and silicone clay thicknesses when producing practical sculpts and casts for prosthetics and animatronics through processes such as 3D printing.
