After many years in legal practice, Ian joined the university in the role of Lecturer in Law (Practising). From his experience as a qualified Solicitor Advocate, Ian is able to bring a much needed practical element to the study of law. This practical approach helps students to understand the legal theory by applying that knowledge to issues from the real world of the law.
Ian delivers a wide range of programmes covering the areas of employment law, equity and trusts, the law of tort and a master's level module in medical negligence.
As a qualified solicitor, Ian also supervises students who work on real-life cases through the University of Bolton's Legal Advice Centre. This centre provides a valuable service to the local community through the offer of free legal advice on a comprehensive range of legal issues. Students can volunteer to work within the centre and will complete modules that are based upon the centre’s work, adding depth to the student experience and a practical work-based experience of the law.
The centre has dealt with family law, company law, property, employment, professional negligence and private client matters to name just a few and Ian’s practice experience helps to ensure that students can gain industry experience and the satisfaction of helping people within the local community.
