Andrew Graham

Executive Dean

I have worked in higher education for over twenty years, having initially transitioned from teaching electrical and electronic engineering in FE colleges. My main teaching focus in higher education was technical teacher training for the post-compulsory sector. Within this role, I undertook a range of overseas consultancy projects related to upgrading vocational education and was a member of the first UNESCO mission to Libya in 2000.

However, for the last 17 years, I have held a variety of management roles from Head of Department, Dean of Faculty through to my current role as the Executive Dean responsible for the Research and Graduate School. My doctoral thesis was ‘An investigation into academic staff perceptions of workload and performance management models in higher education’, which is highly relevant to the current higher education environment.

My research interests focus on higher education management practices and the continuing effects of managerialism stemming from a neoliberal ideology. I am a Fellow of the HEA and a corporate member of the Institution of Engineering and Technology.
