Alex Atkinson

I’m Alex, I qualified as a Nurse in 2006. My first post was as a scrub nurse at Chorley hospital, which I loved but wanted to move on to more challenging roles. I worked here for five years and then went on to work in a Private hospital caring for oncology patients. With this new role, reigniting my passion for learning, I studied at Clatterbridge hospital, care of the patient requiring chemotherapy.
I then went on to work at HMP Preston, where my studies continued, but this time in the field of mental health. With suicide and self-harm, mentorship and research. I worked within the prison service for five years before returning to the acute hospital. Where I worked in the fields of haematology and gynaecology, eventually becoming the gynaecology advanced nurse practitioner.
With all these qualifications and still a high passion for learning I attended an open day at Bolton University where I have begun my lecturing career, where I plan to undertake my Pg. cert in teaching and learning in higher and professional education
