NHS Test and Trace ‘Universities Go Home’ Programme

About

The Department of Health & Social Care (DHSC) has entered into an agreement with the University of Bolton to deliver on campus an asymptomatic Covid-19 testing facility (in accordance with the NHS Test and Trace ‘Universities Go Home’ Programme) prioritised for students wishing to travel home over the Christmas break, as part of DHSC’s wider efforts to combat the SARS-CoV2-19 (“Covid-19”) pandemic.  The facility is supported by DHSC.

Students that are travelling home from University for Christmas are strongly encouraged to take part in the asymptomatic testing programme being provided at the University’s facility in Bolton One before travelling home from University to keep your families, friends and home communities as safe as possible.

This will ideally involve you having two tests at least three days apart. You should aim to take the first test on Thursday 3rd or Friday 4th and the second test on Monday 7th, Tuesday 8th or Wednesday 9th December. You may choose to just take one test before you travel. The decision to take these tests are entirely your choice.

You can be assured that:

  • Testing is free and available to all students who have been identified as having a term-time residence that is different to their permanent home address.
  • Participation in the testing programme is entirely voluntary.
  • Support is available from the University if you test positive and need to self-isolate.
  • Testing is in accordance with current government guidance.

Please Note

If you receive two negative tests, you are advised to return home immediately (within 24 hours of the second test). If you test positive you will be asked to take a confirmatory PCR test and should self-isolate for 10 days or until the PCR test returns a negative result.

If you test negative but are identified as a close contact of someone who has tested positive, you can return home but must continue self-isolation at home for a period of 14 days using private transport wherever possible.

If you do not access testing before travelling home you are not required to self-isolate but remember to travel home as safely as possible during the ‘student travel window’ between 3-9 December. Remember that national lockdown restrictions are in place until 2nd December and local restrictions will resume from 3rd December. Please check carefully for the latest up-to-date information.

If students are symptomatic or have tested positive, they should not travel until they have been tested and/or advised to do so by NHS Test & Trace.

If you are experiencing symptoms you should access testing through your local test centre – https://www.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test

Please read all the information on this page carefully and then book your test as early as you can before the 3rd December to secure your test.

If you have any queries in the meantime you can email EnquiriesTestingCentre@bolton.ac.uk or call 01204 900600.
