University of Bolton celebrates retirement of dedicated chaplaincy volunteer Evelyn Weston

The University of Bolton celebrated the retirement of a dedicated volunteer who has supported the University's multi-faith chaplaincy for many years.Evelyn Weston, who is currently a Church Warden at Bolton Parish Church, has acted as ‘Pastoral Administrator’ at the University, supporting Co-ordinating Chaplain Rev Dr Gill Smart.She has volunteered every Wednesday at the University for many years, having also supported the previous Chaplain, Rev Phil Edwards.As ‘Pastoral Administrator”, Evelyn undertook much of the administrative duties required to help the efficient functioning of the chaplaincy centre.Dr Greg Walker, Pro Vice Chancellor (Academic Strategy), presented Evelyn with a glass celebration memento and said: “It is for her commitment, loyalty, dedication and care that today we are all gathered to celebrate Evelyn’s significant voluntary work and give her this token of appreciation to commemorate many exceptional years of voluntary service to the University.”

Rev Dr Smart said: “Since I became Chaplain in 2017 Evelyn has been a great support to me. She always had good advice in a challenging situation.“The students and staff who visited the chaplaincy found her easy to talk to and tell her their problems.“Evelyn made wonderful cakes for chaplaincy events, which were enjoyed by all. She has served the University chaplaincy as a volunteer for 10 years, while also being Church Warden at Bolton Parish Church. Thank you, Evelyn, for your service.”
