The University of Bolton is urging the community to join a ‘Rent a Room’ scheme to help address the cost of living crisis and the increase in student numbers this year.

Under the government-run initiative, a single person taking in a lodger can earn up to £7,500 per year tax-free.

Ahmad Khan, Head of International at the University of Bolton, said: “It’s a brilliant way of helping your community.

“It provides the opportunity for cultural enrichment for you and your family, while at the same time earning a tax-free income to help with the rising cost of living.

“It also helps to address the increased demand for living space because of the sharp rise in students coming to the University this academic year, especially international applicants.

”We have partnered with the Royal Bolton NHS Foundation Trust, Bolton Council and others to help us to promote the scheme.”

If you are a student at the University seeking accommodation or are interested in offering accommodation under this scheme, please visit: Rent a Room Scheme | University of Bolton

You will need to complete the form, and the University will contact you by matching providers with those seeking accommodation.

Any agreement made under the scheme is between the person offering the accommodation and the student agreeing to accept the accommodation. The University, its staff and its partners will not be held liable in any way.
