If you are an international student, or if you speak English as a second language, and need to improve your language skills before you can study for your degree, then this programme will be right for you.
The Online English Pre-Sessional Programme has been created to prepare you for academic culture in the UK, to improve your language skills, and to help you gain the academic skills needed to succeed in your chosen field. We’ll support you to develop all skills to a standard comparable to IELTS 6.0/6.5. Online classes will focus on understanding and using academic texts, writing university assignments, participating in lectures and seminars, and other key academic study skills.
By the end of the course, you should have a good understanding of what your degree lecturers will expect from you. Teaching sessions are divided into group sessions, smaller breakout sessions, one-to-one speaking tutorials and self-study sessions.
All classes are delivered online by specialist English for Academic Purposes (EAP) lecturers who work closely with your degree tutors to make sure you learn the skills that will be most useful for you.
As this is an online course, you will need access to a suitable PC or laptop with an internet connection. This PC or laptop will need to be able to access the University of Bolton website (in particular the University’s virtual learning environment Moodle and library webpages), as well as the Zoom video communication app (available from https://zoom.us/download).

Successful completion of this course will allow you to progress to further study at the University of Bolton.
Important note regarding tuition fees for the 2021/2022 academic year: EU nationals who meet residency requirements (have settled or pre-settled status) may be eligible for ‘Home’ fee status. If you do not meet these residency requirements, overseas fees will apply. Irish citizens living in the UK or Ireland will be eligible for ‘Home’ fee status under the Common Travel Area arrangement. Please read the student finance eligibility 2021/2022 policy on www.gov.uk for information.
The fees for a student’s course of study will be set for the normal duration of that course subject only to inflationary increases – measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI) recorded in March each year to take effect for subsequent start dates.
