If you’re looking to pursue a psychology-related career or further professional training in psychology, this highly regarded conversion course is ideal. Maybe you’re considering a future in educational, occupational or clinical psychology, but don’t have enough credits in psychology at undergraduate level. Or perhaps your psychology degree didn’t come with eligibility for the Graduate Basis for Chartership of the British Psychological Society. Either way, this course is a great solution.
The programme modules cover specific areas of psychology equivalent to those in the British Psychological Society‘s qualification exam, and will give you an opportunity to achieve a firm grounding in psychological theories, approaches and research methods.
While most of your modules will be at master’s-level, you can expect to study in classes alongside our undergraduate students. Learning alongside our undergraduates offers you the opportunity to share in a wider variety of opinions and experiences, helping to broaden your view of psychology. We then offer separate master’s-level tutorials, designed specifically for our MSc Psychology (Conversion) students, to support your achievement of postgraduate academic and critique skills.
Psychology courses at Bolton benefit from excellent facilities and committed, enthusiastic staff – many of whom are involved in leading research that will support your studies.
We also offer this course with a September start date. For details of the full-time course, please visit our full-time MSc Psychology (Conversion) course search web page. Alternatively, to find out more and apply for the part-time course, please visit our part-time MSc Psychology (Conversion) course search web page.
This programme is accredited as conferring eligibility for the Graduate Basis for Chartership (GBC) of the British Psychological Society (BPS), provided you successfully complete the course by passing all the prescribed modules with an overall average mark of at least 50%.
We encourage all our students to apply for student membership of the BPS.

Where changes are made to material information contained in this course description or a decision is taken to suspend a course between the offer of admissions and enrolment, we will inform applicants at the earliest possible opportunity and will outline the various options available to the applicant.
The MSc Psychology (Conversion): January Start is a conversion course for graduates who wish to pursue a professional career in psychology; for instance, in educational, occupational or clinical psychology.
On successful completion of the course, you’ll possess enhanced intellectual and thinking skills, problem-solving, interpersonal awareness, communication skills and the ability to develop arguments supported by relevant evidence, teamwork and IT and data handling skills.
There are numerous career paths available to psychology graduates with British Psychological Society (BPS) accreditation. The more traditional careers include counselling and clinical psychology, occupational or educational psychology, mental health, forensic psychology, cognitive behavioural therapy, and sport and exercise psychology. In addition, there are broader career options, including personnel management, research, teaching, social work and health. The BPS website at https://careers.bps.org.uk/ provides a good source of careers advice.
Postgraduate options include further studies at master’s or PhD level. Graduates can also progress to graduate schemes, which are long term employment contracts usually with a large corporate company offering advanced training packages.
Although some psychology graduates become professional psychologists, many others go on work in related fields. Graduates can use the qualification as a stepping-stone into a range of careers, bearing in mind that some of these roles will require relevant experience and/or postgraduate study. Some of these careers include:
Home students starting this course in the first year will be required to pay a Home fee of £3,600 for the academic year 2021/22.
Overseas students starting this course in the first year will be required to pay a Overseas fee of £12,450 for the academic year 2021/22.
Important note regarding tuition fees for the 2021/2022 academic year: EU nationals who meet residency requirements (have settled or pre-settled status) may be eligible for ‘Home’ fee status. If you do not meet these residency requirements, overseas fees will apply. Irish citizens living in the UK or Ireland will be eligible for ‘Home’ fee status under the Common Travel Area arrangement. Please read the student finance eligibility 2021/2022 policy on www.gov.uk for information.
The fees for a student’s course of study will be set for the normal duration of that course subject only to inflationary increases – measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI) recorded in March each year to take effect for subsequent start dates.
