Course Details

Designed to assist the next generation of managers in developing the necessary knowledge and skills for career development, our Master’s in International Management aims to offer a comprehensive overview of global management theories and practices, with a focus on the different national and cultural contexts in which companies operate.

Stimulating and challenging, this course combines elements of research, innovation and application, with a view to building your academic and professional skillsets and opening up development opportunities in careers and areas of further study. A key course focus is global decision-making and exploring the role of management in a cross-cultural context, including the concepts and issues relating to diversity and human resource management.

You’ll study across a range of relevant subject areas, such as strategy formulation, sustainable business development, innovative marketing, and finance and accounting for a firm foundation in management skills that can be applied in an international setting.

Professional recognition
Holders of our MSc International Management can apply for the status of Member (MCMI) or Fellow (FCMI) of the Chartered Management Institute. The point at which you can be accepted will depend on factors other than qualifications, such as your responsibilities at work.   • We'll also consider applications where appropriate work experience can be demonstrated in lieu of, or in addition to, the published academic qualifications in line with the University’s Recognition of Prior Experiential Learning (RPEL) procedures.
  • You may be required to attend an interview and/or provide a portfolio of work.

This programme is for students who want a management career that takes them around the world or who will work within international organisations with multi-country operations. The focus will be on global decision-making and the role of management in a cross-cultural context.

As a graduate, you’ll possess an understanding of the global economic, social and political environments which affect an organisation. The course helps to develop a range of employability skills including researching and reporting, public speaking, financial understanding, commercial awareness, strategic planning, enterprise and innovation, and decision making in a global context.

What can I do with this qualification?

This course is designed to prepare you for a variety of management roles across a range of sectors and types of organisation. This may be within the private, public or voluntary sector, or a multinational company or SME. Roles are available within marketing, HR, finance, information systems, strategic management, retail, manufacturing, management consultancy, international banking and in the commodities markets.

This internationally recognised qualification can also help with progression to competitive graduate schemes which are advanced training packages for aspiring business leaders usually within large corporate companies. These are often multinational or global companies who recognise the need for managers who understand the global market.

The fees for a student’s course of study will be set for the normal duration of that course subject only to inflationary increases – measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI) recorded in March each year to take effect for subsequent start dates.

Our specialist team of tutors delivers a varied teaching programme, including tutor-led timetabled classes and structured lectures, where you’ll cover the theory of your subject. In workshops and within the Virtual Learning Environment, you’ll have the opportunity to put your knowledge into practice. Lessons are delivered on either a one-to-one or group basis.

As well as exploring the different areas of international management, the course also includes sessions dedicated to employability skills and information literacy development. You’ll also be expected to complete independent study, such as assignments, background reading and exam revision. Assessments of your progress will take the form of coursework - usually reports - and examinations.
