The major aim of the newly launched Bolton Business Gateway is to provide a focal point to ensure optimal university engagement with businesses and external organisations, benefiting local employers and at the same time, promoting and enhancing employment and enterprise opportunities for our students.
The diagram below identifies a number of areas of which the BBG will be actively promoting. BBG will be working closely with the university’s careers’ Service and the Academic Schools, Research Groups and the Graduate School to support and complement their existing initiatives regarding work placements, internships, live briefs and research projects and enterprise activities, as well as supporting the further development of School Advisory Boards and the nomination of Business Fellows to support their work.
BBG will be working closely with the Students Union and its Enterprise Society to help foster graduate entrepreneurs and the first initiative in this area will be the launch of ‘Bolton Angels and Dragons’. Alongside this initiative, BBG will also be launching a series of workshops aimed at small businesses and start-ups, working alongside existing agencies and support networks eg Bolton Council and the Business Growth Hub.
BBG will be led by Martyn Shaw, Director of Business Development supported by Employer Engagement Manager Phil Lawton and Enterprise Coordinator, Jane Stuart-Puttnam. We are delighted to welcome, to coincide with the launch of BBG, our new graduate intern, Tosin Okedore!
