Your law degree may be the first step on your way to a legal career, or it might be the opportunity to take a new subject that allows you to develop your critical thinking skills and reasoning before you embark on a non-legal career.
An LLB (Hons) Law Degree with the University of Bolton in Greater Manchester, offers you the opportunity to experience all aspects of learning about law, with clearly defined pathways that allow you to specialise or to continue on to postgraduate law. However, a Bolton University law degree also gives you many more options than a barrister or solicitor.
Your Alternative Career with a Law Degree
If you’ve always enjoyed solving problems and being analytical, a law degree gives you the framework to understand how and where to apply these skills in real-world situations. You’ll also be able to develop your communication expertise, learning how to state a case and express yourself precisely. These are all transferrable skills and can be as important to a journalist as to a paralegal.
The law touches almost every aspect of your life and so the potential roles on offer are diverse and interesting. As well as HR and Finance, many law graduates go on to work in the Civil Service, in the insurance industry or even in the Probation Service.
If you are unsure about what pathway you would like to pursue, then our supportive teaching staff will be on-hand to talk you through your career options. They understand that you may not be totally sure of exactly which direction you will take when you first start your degree.
A Law Degree for Lawyers
While a law degree can help you to access a career associated with the legal profession, including paralegal and legal secretary, it is also clearly positioned to prepare you for life as a solicitor or barrister. The student experience is at the core of everything that we do and this is true of the flexibility offered by the university’s law degree programmes.
The LB (Hons) Law with Foundation Year includes time to prepare for the full degree and offers full-time study over four years, while the LLB (Hons) Law runs a full-time degree programme over three years or part-time study over five years.
With a law degree, you can undertake a legal career in any of the following:
Chartered legal executive (England and Wales)
