Bolton has a rich and lengthy history when it comes to the fashion and textiles industry. During the industrial revolution, Bolton became one of the largest producers of cotton in the world and since then progress has been colossal.
Given Bolton’s extensive history as a hub of fashion and textiles production, it’s hardly surprising that our courses in Fashion and Textiles place a strong emphasis on industry knowledge. This ensures that our fashion studies students graduate with all the skills they will need to get themselves on the right career path.
At the University of Bolton, we offer students a range of full and part-time BA (Hons) and FdA courses that are suitable for anyone with an interest in fashion, costume, or interiors. We teach students the skills they need to design, develop and produce across printed, non-woven, and embroidered textiles, as well as learning a range of pattern cutting, fashion illustration, and visualization techniques.
As with all University of Bolton courses in the Bolton School of the Arts, students will benefit from the support offered through our small course sizes which give one of the best tutor to student ratios in the UK. As we understand the highly competitive and creative world of fashion and textiles, we give students the opportunity to gain valuable knowledge and inspiration through trips and site visits to trade fairs, design studios, and manufacturers within the UK, Europe, and the USA.
One significant focus on our fashion studies course is keeping in-line with current demands from the industry. We equip our students for the best possible opportunities by deepening their understanding of the sector through the discussion of complex issues concerning ethics, sustainability, and global and international trends.
