In September 2018 we launched the BA (Hons) Fashion and BA (Hons) Fashion with Foundation Year programmes. Today marks the end of our first academic year and what a year it has been.
Throughout the year our incredible students have thrown themselves wholeheartedly into everything we have done and it really would not have been the same without them!
The students have had the opportunity to undertake modules in fashion practices, contexts and concepts. Gaining fundamental skills and knowledge in pattern cutting and construction, print, dye and embellishment processes.
A series of critical theory lectures has given them an insight into the different contexts that inform our understanding of fashion - looking at social, environmental and political issues.
Fashion concepts encouraged budding designers to explore drawing and image-making as a means of visually researching and communicating trends and concepts.
We have been on inspirational study visits to look at material samples at the Harris Museum - this resulted in a body of work produced in the second semester for their Applied Design module.
We went to the Bowes Museum’s Catwalking: Fashion through the lens of Chris Moore exhibition in November 2018; where students had the opportunity to see pieces by Dior, Comme des Garçons, YSL and Balenciaga (to name only a few) up close.
In March 2019 we went to Italy, visiting the beautiful Lake Como, Bellagio and Milan. Visits to ComoCrea and the Linea and Mantero design studios offered students an opportunity to explore the world of high-end fashion print.
Now, we look forward to September 2019, when the first years will become second years - further developing their skills and working towards new and exciting directions.
We will also welcome a new group of first-year students to join the Bolton Fashion team. Next year is going to be even better!
