If you missed the January UCAS deadline, you may be panicking. If you are worried that you have left it too late to apply to university this year; don’t fret… your university dream is still alive and kicking via UCAS Clearing 2021. We’ll explain how to apply below.
The UCAS deadline typically falls on the 15th of January, yet it was extended by two weeks this year due to the closures caused by the pandemic. Nevertheless, for some of you, the 29th of January may not have given you enough time to make your university application. The good news is that there are still options available.
You Can Use Clearing to Get a University Place
To get a university place in 2021, you can use Clearing. If you have already made an application via UCAS and you wish to enrol on a full-time undergraduate course, you will need to use UCAS Clearing, so do keep this in mind.
You can use UCAS Clearing from 8am on the day of your results. Simply log into your Track page on UCAS with your personal ID number. Your Track screen should tell you that you are in Clearing, and you will have a Clearing number in the top left-hand corner of the page. You will need this number when you contact universities, so keep it handy.
You can then use the search tool feature on UCAS to find out which courses still have places in your chosen subject. The search tool is the only official one of its kind, so it is the most up-to-date. With every course that is displayed, the contact details will be shown, and the majority of universities have a special Clearing department, so you can connect with someone who will be able to help you with ease.
Before calling up the university to see if you can get a place on the course in question, make sure you have all of your details handy. We’d recommend having your Clearing number, UCAS ID number, exam results, personal statement, portfolios (if applicable), and any relevant work experience within easy reach. It is also a good idea to jot down any questions you wish to ask the Clearing team.
