A secure job for the future | How to be an Accountant

Recent times have, for many of us, been turbulent due to the coronavirus pandemic. Job security is nearing an all-time low, and no-one is quite sure what the future holds. You may be wondering how you can lock down a career with job security and a generous salary. At the University of Bolton, we believe our Accountancy BA course is one such path.

Is accounting a good career?

Even in times of difficulty, accountants are not only in demand, but make good money. People have, and always will, require the help of accountants to manage their finances, providing a secure future. You’re also granted the freedom to work in almost any industry, from music to movies, publishing to personal banking or engineering to entertainment.

The different types of accountant
Accounting has many applications, but the main avenues you can go down are:

  • Management accounting - creating forecasts for business or fitting a plan to a budget
  • Financial accounting - looking back at past records and creating statements for stakeholders
  • Tax accountants - those who advise businesses or self-employed people on how to handle their tax affairs

But how do you get to the point where you’re required to choose?

Get your accounting qualifications at Bolton
You’ll need a qualification to make it in accounting. In the UK, it usually takes around four years to become a fully qualified accountant, so your Undergraduate degree choice is important. It’s for this reason we recommend our Accountancy BA course so highly. Not only are our Accountancy and Finance courses ranked #2 in the UK for Student Satisfaction (Complete University Guide 2021), we’re also a Gold-status partner of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants. Our accounting course is an excellent way to gain the skills, knowledge and develop the professional network needed to succeed.

We believe we don’t just teach you what accountants do, or even just how to become an accountant. We teach you how to be a good accountant, and we do it all in the new £4.8 million Institute of Management, based in the heart of Bolton town centre.

If you want to study at the University ranked #5 in the UK for Teaching Quality (The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2020), #1 in the North West for Student Satisfaction (Complete University Guide 2021, 2020, 2019), read more at the course info page or download the Accountancy BA brochure.
