Why study Fashion at the University of Bolton?

Study Fashion at Bolton and join a university that takes great pride in providing a supportive learning environment. We have been ranked No.1 in the North West for Student Satisfaction for the past three years*, and are a Top 5 University for Teaching Quality.**

You’ll develop skills in:

● Design development
● Pattern cutting
● Garment manufacture
● Fashion illustration
● CAD for technical drawings and your portfolio

While your talent and skills are actively encouraged, we’ll also teach you how to balance self-expression with the need to understand commercial design and manufacturing processes, as well as an awareness of key critical issues affecting the industry. Our courses are driven by a considered approach to design and explore issues around climate change and sustainability.

Design development and communication of ideas is inherent within each project, with live briefs and future fashion embedded into the course. Alongside trend and concept-led collections, you'll also consider the performance, functionality and longevity of clothing for different purposes, with a strong awareness of ethical practices.

Paige Hilton is in her final-year of the Fashion degree and tells us about the skills she has developed.

“This course has enabled me to learn about many different roles in the fashion industry, for example, I know how to create my own screen print or produce a flock or foil print using the heat press. I’ve also learnt how to use the laser cutter on fabric and embroidery machines.

“There have also been guests and people introduced to us who are in the fashion industry and have talked to us about their different experiences. All of this will help me when I graduate as it’s knowledge about the industry I’m looking to go into which I feel I know a lot about,” she said.

Final year student, Moses Quartey agrees that the knowledge he’s gained will help him once he graduates.

“One of the main things I like about my course is the amount of new information I’ve gained; I feel like every lecture or workshop I learn something that adds to my knowledge of fashion. As well as that, I like the freedom that I’m allowed and how I’m always pushed to try and experiment with different techniques to enhance my creativity.

“My experience will help when I graduate because of the skills I’ve acquired, especially in terms of the design process. Knowing how to go from research all the way through to creating a collection will help me a great deal when finding a job, or even starting my own company after graduation,” he said.
