Many people in the special effects industry work with computers, animating, using green screens and other dynamic props. One of the oldest and most traditional types of effects is applying makeup. Special effects makeup can create a whole world of different visuals. In some films, they are used to transform a healthy person looking half-withered and dead; in others, they completely change a person into another creature or species with horns, excess skins and different prosthetic features.

For someone looking to become a special effects makeup artist, it is vital to be able to have great skill with everything, from applying a fancy eye shadow effect to horrific battle wounds and scars. The ability to use makeup in multiple different ways is vital for success.
