Want a career working and caring for children?

If you enjoy caring for children and young people, a career as a Children's Nurse could be the perfect role for you. Also known as a paediatric nurse, this role allows you to be a key member of a multi-disciplinary team of professional and medical staff which includes doctors, health visitors, healthcare assistants, hospital play staff, social workers and psychologists. There is a shortage of qualified nurses in the UK, so career opportunities are excellent.

A career in Nursing offers you the chance to make a difference, as well as a high degree of work-flexibility and excellent employment prospects. You’ll spend your time caring for and interacting with young minds, looking after their physical and mental health and wellbeing, as well as stimulating their learning.

You could work in a special children’s hospital or hospice, on a children’s ward in a general hospital or, after further training, in paediatric intensive care. You could also work in the community, at a GP practise or at a child health clinic.

Becoming a children’s nurse is no easy task. Not only does it require all the detailed learning that is involved with being a healthcare professional but is also demands a loving and caring natured person with a lot to give.

Sometimes children will not be phased by requiring medical attention, but in some cases, it can lead to a distressing scenario. This is the main reason why children’s nurses need a calming manner about them, an ability to calm others and remain positive in a stressful situation.

Offered in partnership with the Bolton NHS Foundation Trust, the University of Bolton’s Nursing (Children) Degree aims to give you the experience and skills to join this demanding yet rewarding career. For more information on the University of Bolton’s Nursing (Children) Degree, click here
