No teaching experience is needed to teach the trade you love!

It is often said that tradesmen and women are the backbones of our great country. From plumbers to hairdressers, carpenters to electricians, all trades are vital to each community; without them, there would be little growth.

Which is why it is so important that people learn these trades each year, for every bricklayer that retires he will need someone to replace him, especially with the latest government schemes pledging to build 200,000 homes a year.

Now, there is an opportunity for tradesmen and women to pass on their skills without having any previous teaching experience. If you’re interested in a career that teaches others a skill set that helps them flourish, our Cert Ed Certificate in Education could be perfect for you. At the University of Bolton, we know the importance of learning a skilled trade and how valuable sharing this knowledge can be for others, in their professional and personal lives.

Our Cert Ed Certificate in Education 14+ is a nationally recognised teaching qualification that doesn’t require you to have any prior teaching experience. This course is available to anyone qualified and practising in a trade such as hairdressing, bricklaying, joinery or plumbing. It is taught on the Salford College campus, using a combination of traditional study and work-based learning methods to help students learn the key theories and practicalities of teaching. Our students are guided through a supportive and professional environment to ensure that they are prepared for a successful career in teaching.

Despite being one of the largest providers of teacher training for further and higher education in the UK, the University of Bolton ensures class sizes are relatively small to enhance and optimise student learning.

Through a combination of traditional study and work-based learning, you’ll be able to explore the key theories and techniques of teaching, learning and assessment. We’ll support you as you discover how to apply them in practice, how you can mould them to the teaching of your trade and how they link into current research in education.
