Jan joined Bolton in 2015 as a lecturer covering a range of modules including dementia, social inclusion, group dynamics and dissertation supervision.

Following registration as a nurse in general and mental health she worked in and managed a variety of clinical settings covering cardio-respiratory medicine, acute psychiatric admissions, drugs and alcohol detoxification, psychiatric intensive care and forensic psychiatry.

As a mature student, she completed a BSc (Hons) in Health Care and Welfare (first class) and an MA in Human Relations followed by a Post Graduate Diploma in Education. A career change into education led Jan into lecturing and managing a range of health and social care related programmes within the further education arena.

Returning to the NHS as education lead in primary care and delivering innovation in a local trust paved the path to partnership working in higher education and co-ordinating a health and social care foundation degree programme.

Jan has a passion for delivering top quality teaching and enthusiasm for proactive collaboration with stakeholders using her link tutor role as an ambassador for the University. She achieved the status of Fellow of the Higher Education Academy in 2016 in recognition of her attainment in teaching and learning support in higher education. Her current research interest is in the use of positive psychology in higher education and improving staff well-being.
