Official Letters

If you are an international student making an application to extend your visa, please contact Student Services for more information or visit our Immigration and Welfare pages here|.

Should you require a official "To Whom it May Concern" letter, you can request this online. Log in here| and click on the link under the Student Services heading. Please make sure that your address details are correct before you submit your request - your letter will be posted to you. Please indicate for what purpose you are using the letter as this will help us to provide the correct information. Please note that requests will take approximately 5 working days and that this may be longer at busy times.

There may be a charge of £5 for duplicate official letters. Please contact Student Services for further information or refer to our Student Services Charges leaflet (link can be found on the right hand side).

Bank Letters

Should you require a letter for you bank, you can request this online. Log in here| and click on the link under the Student Services heading. Please make sure that your address details are correct before you submit your request - your letter will be posted to you. Letters will be addressed to the branches in Bolton town centre unless you state an alternative address. Please note that requests will take approximately 5 working days and that this may be longer at busy times.

Council Tax

Full-time students who live alone or with other full-time students are exempt from paying council tax. Any such students who are registered/enrolled on a full-time course at the University will be able to obtain council tax exemption. Full-time students with a non-student partner may be eligible for a partial reduction. Contact Student Services for further information.

We operate a system in the Greater Manchester area where we submit the information directly to the council on your behalf. Please make sure that you keep your address details up to date.

This includes the following local councils: Bolton, Bury, Manchester, Oldham, Rochdale, Salford, Stockport, Tameside, Trafford and Wigan. Follow the instructions for your area to obtain your exemption/discount.

Students living in Bolton should complete a Bolton Council Tax Application Form available from Bolton Council, or download from our related link and submit this to Bolton Council directly.

Students living in Bury please notify Bury Council Tax Office directly.

Students living in Manchester please notify Manchester Council Tax Office directly.

Students living in Oldham please notify Oldham Council Tax Office directly.

Students living in Rochdale please notify Rochdale Council Tax Office directly.

Students living in Salford should complete a Salford Council Tax Application Form available from Salford Council and submit this to Salford Council directly.

Students living in Stockport please notify Stockport Council Tax Office directly.

Students living in Tameside should contact Tameside Council directly or complete a council tax exemption request on their website.|

Students living in Trafford please notify Trafford Council Tax Office directly.

Students living in Wigan should complete a Wigan Council Tax Exemption Form available from Wigan Council  directly or on their website|

Living outside the Greater Manchester area?

Students living outside the above areas will need to request a Council Tax Certificate  online to obtain an exemption certificate and give this to their own Local Council. Log in here| and click on the link under the Student Services heading. Please make sure that your address details are correct before you submit your request - your certificate will be posted to you. Please note that requests will take approximately 5 working days and that this may be longer at busy times.

ID cards

An ID card for the duration of your course will be provided at enrolment. A charge of £10 may be made for subsequent replacements. If your card has been stolen and you have a crime number we will produce a replacement free of charge. You should contact Student Services for further information.
